April is Child Abuse Prevention Month – Help Make a Difference
Most of us can’t even begin to get our heads around the fact that there are 3 million reports of child abuse and neglect a year in our nation. Three million is greater than the population of Chicago, our third largest city! And the three million we’re talking about are all children, the majority of whom are under age four. Some 2,500 children die from abuse or neglect every year.
Most of us agree this is unthinkable. Nevertheless, we must think about how we can make a difference for these children. Something we can do right now is to sign the petition calling for passage of S. 1984 the Protect Our Kids Act recently introduced by Senators Kerry and Collins. To learn more, click here.
For additional information and things you can do, lots of great resources exist, among them the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services This site has everything from resource guides to tips for parents, activity calendars, proclamations, ways to get involved, and more.
